Harry, Hermione & Hedwig...

So we had a little Harry Potter fever at our house around Halloween (contagious but not deadly - phew!) We had fun dressing up as some of our favorites from Hogwarts. I don't think we got any pictures of Chris and I dressed up, but here's a picture of the kiddos. Skylar as Hermione, Tanner as Harry, & Ainsley as Hedwig the owl (use your imagination...).
Love,
The Madsens

The MacDonalds
This home movie was taken the Monday evening before we all went to the temple with Mom and Dad on August 28th, 2006. It is a sweet reminder of how wonderful life with our parents has been.

Our Handcart Heritage

Did you know that 150 years ago today, some of our ancestors, traveling with the Willie Handcart Company were traveling between Chicago and Pond Creek.
The story of the Willie Company is quite amazing. I recommend two websites to learn more about those stories. http://www.ldsep.org/denmark/lfm/sp/55pmort.htm tells the story of Peder and Lene Mortensen. http://handcart.byu.edu/ gives a wonderful chronology of that infamous journey.
Did you know that this family of 10 was promised they would all reach the Salt Lake Valley if they left their oldest son, Morten, behind in Copenhagen to serve a mission? Did you know that our great, great grandfather Hans Jorgen Mortensen, almost gave up and died while climbing Rocky Ridge? Or did you know that just 3 days after reaching the Salt Lake valley they were sent to help settle Parowan, UT, 300 miles to the south!!
If you want, you can subscribe to a daily email about the Willie Company and their trek west. Get to know the Mortensens, and you get to know yourself.

A poem for all the graduates:
Oh happy day is the day I gradgiated from skool.
I am now edgicated and am no longer a fool
so go ahead and ax away
I have all the answers
you can believe every word that I say.

Baby Blessing
Ainsley’s baby blessing is on Sunday the 4th of
June (next Sunday). Those of you who can make it, we’d love to see you there. Our sacrament meeting starts at 9:30 am, but since we have an enormous ward… to get a comfy seat you won’t want to be there later than 9 (and you might have a tough time still! – no, not joking). Let us know & we can fill you in on the rest of the details.
We hope to see you there!

Back in the Blogger game
Hi Family members,
we thought we would say hello and get back onboard with the Macletter. We are just preparing for our new arrival coming in May and finishing up school. Brady graduates from BYU in April. Yahooo! His family will be coming into town for that event, and then my parents will be coming whenever the baby arrives. So we have some exciting days ahead. Well, we also decided to start our own little blog space so that we can upload videos and pictures. Check it out if you have a chance. Love you all. Brady and Sarah

Merry Christmas in March!

Our computer crashed ON Christmas day... good thing I hadn't uploaded the pictures yet! So here's a picture of the kiddos on Christmas day with presents from Santa. I was thinking it had been a while since I posted last, and well... it's been a while since I've taken pictures too. Guess I better start taking some more pictures. :)
We hope all is well with everyone!

Heather & Me in the Gondola at Snow Basin
Today my Dad took Cory, Heather & I to Snow Basin for a little snowboarding. I have been dozens of times, but not for a few years, but Heather & Cory are novices, and needed a little instruction. Dad, of course, took the safe route and stuck with ski's.
We had a blast. Snow Basin is by far the best resort in Utah (in my opinion), and the conditions were near perfect. (Just a little more sun, and a little more powder would have completed the perfection.)
The first couple runs were spent on the bunny hill, going way too slow trying to teach Heather how to stay standing on her board without breaking her face, or spraining her wrists. After a few painful frustrating falls, she finally got to the bottom of the bunny hill, and I made her take her second run ever on a much bigger hill: four times as long, four times as steep. I'm evil that way.
Well, the "baptism by fire" method worked, and she made it down the hill with a newly acquired skill. I was so proud.
Although, my Dad really is the one that stuck with her through that run. Cory & I got impatient and sped down the hill. We then got hot chocolate and waited at the lodge for them before taking another run.
Fun day, long overdue. How is it that I live in this state and don't go snowboarding more often? Oh wait, I remember why: the $60 lift pass. It has a way of deterring me.
Well, hopefully I'll go again before the snow melts this year. We'll see! Click on that picture to see the whole fun series of photos.
